Secure Socket Layer - protocol which allows encrypted network traffic using asymmetric key encryption.

Secure Sockets Layer (SSL), is a cryptographic protocol which is designed to provide communication security over the Internet. It uses X.509 certificates and hence asymmetric cryptography to assure the counterparty with whom they are communicating, and to exchange a symmetric key.
