I have installed Tor using homebrew on MacOS 12.3.1 on an M1 MacBook Air.

I want to use youtube-dl with torsocks and be able to specify the country used for the Exit Node.

torsocks is installed at the following path:

/opt/homebrew/bin/torsocks

(I also have the Tor Browser installed for MacOS).

Having read this, I think I need to modify the torrc file, but I'm uncertain whether the file I'm modifying controls Tor Browser or my command line installation of Tor.

I have created a file at this path:

/opt/homebrew/etc/tor/torrc

And written this line to try to define the country exit node:

ExitNodes {US} StrictNodes 1

As explained in this answer.

I don't think this is working correctly, as I get an error when trying to download a file, but it works correctly in the TorBrowser.

What am I doing wrong?
