Apparently, Tor hidden services can detect proxies such as Tor2Web:

How can hidden services do this? What is the exact process they use to detect these proxies?

  • Maybe Tor2web doesn't modify the HTTP request hostname as it proxies the request, then the onion service can see the request is for the wrong website ("facebook...onion.to" and not "facebook...onion")? – Steve Apr 24 at 19:52
