I'm getting the error message

Tor exited during startup. This might be due to an error in your torrc file, a bug in Tor or another program on your system, or faulty hardware. Until you fix the underlying problem and restart Tor, Tor Browser will not start.

Tor used to work fine on my computer but then I started using this program which uses the python code:

socks.setdefaultproxy(proxy_type=socks.PROXY_TYPE_SOCKS5, addr="127.0.0.1", port=9050)

Now I can't use the Tor browser anymore. I tried the following command line as advised here

Tor exited during startup

which is:

sudo lsof -n -P | grep LISTEN | grep tor

But I have no processes running on my computer. It would really help if I could find my torrc file. Over here they say

https://www.reddit.com/r/TOR/comments/3z2q9i/how_do_i_find_the_tor_configuration_file_in_mac/

You will find a sample Tor configuration file at /opt/local/etc/tor/torrc.sample. Remove the .sample extension to make it effective.

But the file isn't there. I also tried just putting torrc in the Mac spotlight but nothing came up. Another possibility mentioned here

Can't find torrc file on Mac

is

/Applications/TorBrowser.app/Contents/Resources/TorBrowser/Tor

But it's not there either. Also, I tried deleting Tor and redownloading it and that did not work.
