The server is running Linux Debian Stretch (9, testing).
I have installed tor as follows:
I created APT file for Tor:
sudo nano /etc/apt/sources.list.d/tor.list
I entered these lines:
deb http://deb.torproject.org/torproject.org stretch main deb-src http://deb.torproject.org/torproject.org stretch main
I imported the GPG key for Tor:
gpg --keyserver keys.gnupg.net --recv A3C4F0F979CAA22CDBA8F512EE8CBC9E886DDD89 gpg --export A3C4F0F979CAA22CDBA8F512EE8CBC9E886DDD89 | sudo apt-key add -
I installed Tor and Arm as follows:
sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install tor deb.torproject.org-keyring tor-arm
I stopped the Tor service:
sudo service tor stop
I edited the config file:
sudo nano /etc/tor/torrc
I have not uncommented anything and just added these lines:
ORPort XXXXX DirPort YYYYY SOCKSPort 0 RunAsDaemon 0 ExitPolicy reject *:* ExitPolicy reject6 *:* Nickname myNick ContactInfo myContact
I punched holes in my firewall:
sudo iptables -A INPUT -p tcp -m tcp --dport XXXXX -j ACCEPT` sudo iptables -A INPUT -p tcp -m tcp --dport YYYYY -j ACCEPT`
I forwarded these ports onto the server in my router.
And finally started the Tor service:
service tor start
Questions:
Did I install it correctly?
If not, what steps did I do wrong?
If I did install it alright, is there any further configuration I need to do?
How do I check I am part of the network?
Do I need to register on Atlas or somewhere else?
